Alfred Salzmann Jerusalem T 598 Engraved Brass Bird Vase c.1930s

A finely decorated **Alfred Salzmann Jerusalem cast brass vase**, model **T 598**, dating to circa the 1930s and marked **Made in Jerusalem Palestine**.

The upper section features an intricate continuous engraved and punched/stippled design depicting a stylised bird amongst flowers and scrolling foliage. The bird is particularly detailed, with scalloped plumage and finely engraved parallel lines forming the wing. The predominantly undecorated lower section provides a strong contrast with the detailed decorative frieze above.

The underside bears Alfred Salzmann’s triangular **ALFRED SALZMANN JERUSALEM** workshop mark together with **MADE IN JERUSALEM PALESTINE** and the model number **T 598**.

*Dating & research:** An Alfred Salzmann T 598 is documented in a 2014 Kedem Auction House catalogue alongside model T 523. The catalogue described the pieces as Jerusalem, 1930s, made from cast brass with engraved decoration incorporating geometric patterns, flowers and birds. The documented T 598 displays closely comparable bird and foliage decoration.

Alfred Salzmann was a Jerusalem metalworker associated with early 20th-century Jerusalem decorative metalwork. His pieces are encountered within collections of Judaica, Israeli decorative arts and historical Palestine material.
