Antique Art Nouveau Figural Ashtray / Vide Poche – Lady & Floral Design c.1900–1920

An attractive **antique Art Nouveau figural ashtray / vide poche**, dating approximately to the early 20th century, c.1900–1920.

The substantial cast design depicts a woman in a long flowing dress with her arms outstretched, appearing to hold the raised sides of the dish. She is surrounded by stylised flowers, foliage and pierced decoration characteristic of the Art Nouveau style.

The piece is made from a cast copper alloy that appears likely to be bronze, although the exact metal composition has not been tested. Its surface has developed a dark aged patina with areas of blue-green verdigris. The underside is supported on three small integral feet.

No maker’s mark or signature has been identified. An identical example of the design has been found described as an Art Nouveau figural ashtray, measuring approximately 6 x 4 inches.
