Antique Victorian W Bartram & Co Leather Shot Flask Brass Hunting Shooting C1870

A superb original Victorian leather shot flask by W. Bartram & Co, dating to the mid/late 19th century, circa 1850–1880. Made for the sporting shooting market, the flask has a traditional stitched brown leather body with brass fittings and an adjustable shot-measuring dispenser. The brass dispenser is clearly stamped W. BARTRAM & CO and has graduated settings including 1 and 1¼.

A lovely piece of Victorian country sporting and shooting history, with plenty of genuine age and character.

Condition Good antique condition for its age with a lovely, untouched appearance. The leather shows considerable age-related surface crazing, rubbing and colour variation and has become stiff with age, so may benefit from sympathetic conservation/TLC if desired. It has been left untreated rather than applying modern leather conditioners or dressings. The stitching appears substantially intact and the flask retains a good overall shape. The brass has an attractive aged patina with surface marks and wear consistent with use and age. There is some oxidation to the steel components. Unpolished and unrestored, retaining its genuine aged character.
