An impressive vintage Indian brass ewer or ornamental water jug, featuring an unusual sculptural cobra snake handle, elegant elongated pouring spout and beautifully detailed engraved decoration.
The bulbous body is covered in intricate floral and foliate patterns, interspersed with human figures and animals. The elaborate serpent-shaped handle.
Standing on a decorative raised pedestal with leaf-shaped supports, the ewer is a substantial piece weighing approximately 1.21 kg.
The design is characteristic of traditional Indian brassware, particularly the engraved metalwork associated with Benares (Varanasi). Possibly dating from the early to mid-20th century, although its exact age and place of manufacture have not been established.
